wise county veterans memorial museum

Museum Mission

The Mission of the Wise County Veterans Museum is to provide a tangible experience for our visitors that tells the stories of our nation’s wars from the perspective of our Veterans, and most particularly, Veterans from Wise County. Our hope and expectations are that the WCVG Museum in Bridgeport will easily rival any similar museum in the nation.

  • Though our displays highlight all our nation’s wars, the focus of the museum is on the undeclared wars of, Korea, Vietnam, and the current War on Terror (the bulk of our Veterans served in these undeclared wars)
  • The museum serves as an education device for relating Texas’ involvement in U.S. military actions
  • Displays are constantly growing from donations of memorabilia by local families and individuals
  • The museum serves as a “home base” for WCVG activities
  • It is a perfect place for meetings or civic functions

History

After the success of the Veterans Memorial Park,  plans began for a Wise County Veterans Museum, as an extension of Park. Most of our members had items they wanted to donate that would contribute to the heritage of not only Wise County, but also to that of Texas and our Nation as a whole. We needed to preserve these items and stories before they were lost forever. The goal of the Museum is to provide the visitor with a basic introduction into the military history of our country and the Texas heritage contributing to same.

In 2014, the City of Bridgeport came to our assistance through the purchase of a beautiful facility ideal for our purpose in the heart of Bridgeport, which they are provided for our use.

We solicited funds from organizations throughout Wise County which helped us complete the First-Class Museum we promised our County, State and Nation. We Officially opened the Museum on September 11, 2015 with Lt Gen Richard Carey, USMC, a Korean War veteran, as our guest speaker.
