Museum Mission
The Wise County Veterans Museum aims to offer visitors a meaningful experience that narrates the stories of our nation's wars through the eyes of Veterans, particularly those from Wise County. We aspire for the WCVG Museum in Bridgeport to stand out as a premier institution, comparable to any similar museum across the country.
While our exhibits encompass all of the nation’s wars, the museum places a special emphasis on the undeclared conflicts of Korea, Vietnam, and the ongoing War on Terror, as the majority of our Veterans have served in these significant yet often overlooked wars.
The museum functions as an educational resource, highlighting Texas' contributions to U.S. military engagements. Our displays are continually expanding, thanks to generous donations of memorabilia from local families and individuals.
Additionally, the museum serves as a central hub for WCVG activities and is an ideal venue for meetings and civic events.
History
In 2014, the City of Bridgeport generously assisted us by purchasing a beautiful facility perfectly suited for our needs, located in the heart of Bridgeport, which they made available for our use. We sought funding from various organizations throughout Wise County, which enabled us to fulfill our commitment to establish a First-Class Museum for our County, State, and Nation. The Museum officially opened on September 11, 2015, with Lt. Gen. Richard Carey, a Korean War veteran, serving as our guest speaker.
PURPOSE
Honor, remembrance, and education are essential pillars that shape our understanding of history and the values we uphold. They serve to commemorate significant events and individuals, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and remembered. Furthermore, education plays a crucial role in imparting knowledge about these themes, fostering a sense of respect and awareness in future generations. By integrating these elements, we cultivate a society that values its past while striving for a more informed and compassionate future.
